Keratoconus is a form of eye disease which can be caused by the deterioration of the cornea, the transparent top layer of the eye that provides most of the vision. It is a degenerative condition and as the area of the eye deteriorates so does the lens of the eye (a thin lens or vitreous makes up the lens of the eye). When this thin lens is eroded, it causes the curvature of the cornea, thin crusting that forms around the front surface of the eye making it more susceptible to tear gas attacks, infections, and a variety of other eye disorders. Some people, particularly those who are older, develop this eye disease earlier than others.

This helps to correct both nearsightedness and farsightedness simultaneously. Another method of treatment of the disease is a prism. This involves a prism with two lenses. It is because of the prism that the condition is corrected instead of using eyeglasses.
Finally, when the treatment of the disease has not been effective, the doctor may opt for laser eye surgery. The eyelids are raised, and the laser is used to reshape the cornea to cure the condition. After the procedure, the patient has to stay in a hospital until the surgery is completed. As a result, this kind of treatment of this disease is the most expensive treatment of the condition. What induces the condition remains unclear, it can be figured out by three major reasons that are genetic, environmental and the creation of a new lens that is not properly established. Any data suggests this could be linked to the frequent rubbing of the eye.
